Setting Up A Facebook Support Group

Do you feel that you are suffering in silence? Would you like to connect with other pain sufferers in your local community? Why not set up a Facebook group? It only takes a few minutes, and it’s free!

To create a Facebook group, you first need to go to the homepage of your Facebook account. You will see a list of groups you are a member of on the left hand side of your page. Above this list, you’ll see a “more” link. And when you click on “more”, there is an option that says “create group”.

Click on that link and a new window will be loaded onto your screen. Think of the name for your group. Then choose the names of the people you want to add.

All you have to do is start typing in the names and Facebook will automatically find them (you must already be Facebook friends).

Click on the name and they’ve been added.

Now, you need to choose the level of privacy of your group. For example, it may be confidential information that you share with people so you need to have a closed group.

On the other hand, it might be a page where you are looking to attract feedback from a mass audience, in which case the group will be open. Remember, there may be legal considerations. If you have an ongoing case and are running an open group, everyone, including the opposing legal team can see what you are doing and this could prejudice your claim. If you prefer to keep your page open, use common sense and limit your posts to relevant topics. Posting photos that show you partying whilst you are claiming for a debilitating injury is clearly inappropriate. If in doubt, seek professional legal advice.

Once you have set the privacy level, click on “Create”. Your group is now set up.

Remember to upload a photo and also some introductory information explaining what your group does.
